Why it Happened
The Rise
WWI was a terrible period for Germany. To start off, they lost the war. They also owed many countries millions of dollars because of the war crimes they were accused of, Versailles Treaty, etc. Germany was in terrible debt, the citizens were left with no jobs, and the government wasn’t doing their jobs. The overall spirit in Germany was negative. With Germany being at a terrible point in history, their citizens wanted change; any kind of change.
Adolf Hitler was appointed chancellor on January 30th, 1933. Hitler came to power behind strongly disagreeing with the Versailles Treaty that put Germany in debt. He then got a plan where all the power went to the chancellor, and he did that as he had planned. Hitler always had a hatred for the Jews. As his hatred for the Jews grew, he began to tell a big lie that the Jews were responsible for the horrible times the Germans were having. After being told over and over and over again, the German people began to believe the new leader. He asked other countries if they would like to take Jews into their countries. Only Dominican Republic said they would, which convince Hitler even more that the Jews weren’t even people.
Hitler had to “get rid of“ the Jews so he sent them all to ghettos. This is where they were sent to concentration camps and killing camps. At these camps these Jews and even other Semitic people were treated as is they were nothing; not human at all. With Hitler growing more powerful, there was nothing the Jews could do to stop the Nazi Party (Hitler’s party.) Hitler came up with laws that took away citizenship from the Jews. These laws were known as the Nuremburg Laws.
So this is how Buchenwald Concentration Camp came about. Adolf Hitler had this plan to get rid of all Jews. He didn’t want a single Jew alive. The prisoners were fed just enough to stay alive. If anyone of them got sick at all, they would die very soon after. Hitler convinced the German people that every problem they had in their life; was caused by a Jew. Adolf Hitler led his fellow Nazi member to kill over 7 million people, including 6 million Jews.
